All levels are based on an average of the top 10 most polluted cities in each country. India is by far the worst with 134 fine particle matter 2.5[ug/m] and Sweden had the lowest levels at 7.2. Most of the data were collected in 2013 and 2014 with a few countries only having data available from 2009. Other countries, especially in Africa, did not have any data.
This map has been created using The Global environmental stratification. The Global environmental stratification (GEnS), based on statistical clustering of bioclimate data (WorldClim). GEnS, consists of 125 strata, which have been aggregated into 18 global environmental zones (labeled A to R) based on the dendrogram.
